Quick Tips

Problem:
Gas flame comes on first few times then quits and ignitor keeps cycling on and off but never lets the gas go.
Answer:
Replace the coils on the Gas Valve.

Problem:
No flame, no ignitor at all,
Answer:
Inspect igniter for small burnt spot on dark gray or black part of ignitor or check for 110 volts to ignitor when dryer should be calling for heat

Gas Burner / Ignitor / Radiant Sensor  Testing and/or Replacement

Electrical Shock Hazard

· Disconnect power before servicing

· Failure to do so could result in personal injury or death.

This gas burner is located on the left side off the dryer, below the drum. This gas burner is used to heat air passing over the clothes.

STEP 1 Disconnect the electrical power supply .

STEP 2 Remove the toe panel .

STEP 3 Shut off the gas supply by turning the shut-off valve located by the burner.
STEP 4 Remove the union nut from the shut-off valve.
STEP 5 Using a nut driver or socket wrench, remove the two screws through the burner base, into the dryer base.
STEP 6 Disconnect the harness plugs from the main wiring harness to the burner
STEP 7 Remove one wire at a time from the sensor carefully labeling each wire according to the terminal marking on the sensor. This procedure should  ensure that the right wire is reconnected to the right terminal.

Product Damage

· The ignitor at the end of the burner is very fragile.

· Do not hit or bump this.

· Handle with care.

Failure to do so could result in product damage.

STEP 8 Carefully remove the burner by pulling it straight out of the front of the machine.
Reverse Procedure to reinstall.
 

Ignitor Testing and/or Replacement

· Disconnect power before servicing

· Failure to do so could result in personal injury or death.

OHMMETER REQUIRED

This ignitor is located at the lower front left corner at the end off the burner. As the ignitor gets hot, it ignites the gas as it comes out off the valve. See Type A or Type B

TYPE A

TESTING

STEP I Disconnect the electrical power supply.

STEP 2 Remove the toe panel .

STEP 3 Disconnect the harness plug from the burner to the plug on the ignitor

STEP 4 You must know how to use an ohmmeter.

STEP 5 Refer to the instructions that came with your volt-ohmmeter to find the proper scale to measure 50-400 ohms. Set the ohms scale and ZERO the meter.

STEP 6 Touch one ohmmeter probe to one of the bullet-like terminals in the ignitor plug.

STEP 7 Touch the other ohmmeter probe to the other bullet-like terminal in the ignitor plug.

STEP S The ohmmeter should show between 50-400 ohms on the ohms scale.

STEP 9 If you  do not get this reading, the ignitor is and needs replacing.

 

Replacement
STEP 10 Remove the burner

· Handle with care.

Failure to do so could result in product damage.

STEP 11 Using a nut driver or a socket wrench, remove the screw going through the ignitor and into the burner bracket.

STEP 12 Replace the ignitor on the burner bracket.

STEP 13 Using a nut driver or socket wrench, insert the screw through the ignitor, into the burner bracket and tighten.

STEP 14 Replace the burner

STEP 15 Reconnect the harness plug from the ignitor to the plug on the burner.

TYPE B

TESTING

STEP 1 Disconnect the electrical power supply

STEP 2 Remove the toe panel

STEP 3 Remove the burner

STEP 4 Remove the ignitor by releasing the pressure on the bracket spring, and at the same time pull on the ignitor.

STEP 5 Touch one probe to one of the   sides, just under the fin.

STEP 6 Touch the other probe to the other side, just under the fin.

STEP 7 The ohmmeter should show between 50-400 ohms on the ohms scale.

STEP 8 If you do not get this reading, the ignitor is bad and needs replacing.

Product Damage

· The ignitor at the end of the burner is very fragile.

· Do not hit or bump this.

· Handle with care.

Failure to do so could result in product damage.

Replacement
STEP 9 Replace the ignitor in the bracket by releasing the pressure on the spring.

STEP 10 Place one of the fins in the bottom slot of the bracket.

STEP 11 Replace the burner

STEP 12 Replace the toe panel

STEP 13 Reconnect the electrical power supply.

STEP 14 Start the dryer and check

· Make sure all ground wires are properly attached.

· Make sure all wiring is not pinched or laying on sharp edges.

· Failure to do so could result in personal injury or death.
