Replacing rollers on a Sears or Whirlpool Dryer

Replacing the Rollers

These two rollers are located on the bulkhead. They support the rear of the drum while the drum turns.

 

 

 

 STEP 1 Disconnect the electrical power supply

STEP 2 Remove the lint filter and the two screws that were under it and raise the top by prying the top upwards using a screwdriver at the left and right front corners.

STEP 3 If you have a lower access panel, remove it by pulling the top towards you and lifting it off the two lower support brackets.

STEP 4 Remove the front cabinet panel

STEP 5 Remove the drum

STEP 6 For the bottom left support roller, use a socket wrench or nutdriver and remove the screw holding the support bracket, if used, to the bottom of the cabinet

STEP 7 For the bottom left support roller, use a screwdriver and pry the clip off the shaft, if used.

STEP 8 For the bottom left support roller, remove the support bracket, if used.

STEP 9 Using a screwdriver, pry the plastic trinng out of the groove on either the lower left or upper right shafts.

STEP 10 Remove the support roller.

NOTE: Check the surface of the shaft for any nicks or other damage and replace if necessary.

STEP 11 Place the support roller on the shaft.

STEP 12 Replace the tri-ring in the groove on the shaft.

STEP 13 For the bottom left support roller, place the end of the roller shaft through the hole in the straight end of the support bracket, if used.

STEP 14 For the bottom left support roller, use a nutdriver or socket wrench, insert the screw through the support bracket, if used, into the cabinet and tighten.

STEP 15 For the bottom left support roller, replace the clip, if used, on the shaft, pushing it on until it touches the bracket.

STEP 16 Replace the drum

NOTE: Make sure the drive belt is routed properly around the idler pulley, motor pulley and drum
