Washer Tips

• Check the power to the motor
• Check timer connections
• Check water pressure switch
• Check wiring harness for broken or burnt wires
• Make sure pump will turn.

• Check belt  or pump coupler.
• Check motor and wiring to motor.
• Check the spline inside the agitator. Sometimes the spline will strip.
• Check transmission gear box.
• Check water pressure (level) switch.
• NOTE: Washer will only agitate when tub is full of water

• Sometimes a garment will get trapped in the pump.

• Recently I've seen this problem a lot on the Newer Style GE / Hotpoint washers. Usually 1 to 5 years old. What is happening is the washer is spinning with the tub full of water. to check it do this .... Let the washer fill up with water with it set on the highest setting. Then open the lid on the washer. Hold something non-conductive, like a non-conductive screwdriver in the lid switch hole to make the switch. Watch the tub and the agitator. The agitator should be going back and forth. THE TUB SHOULD STAY SOMEWHAT STATIONARY, it should move no more than 2" right or left of index.  IT SHOULD NOT SPIN. If it does then your washer is spinning the water out the over flow tube which means you have a bad brake that holds the tub. If your Transmission has a white UPC code sticker on it, you can order a bearing kit to repair this. If your transmission has a yellow or green UPC sticker on it then you must replace the complete transmission and brake assembly. If the washer's transmission isn't under warranty, it's probably not worth repairing as GE transmissions are around the 200.00 price range. To get the washer repaired under warranty you'll need to contact your selling dealer. Be sure to inquire if both the part and labor are covered and if not what will the labor costs be.

Other Possible Causes  for a leak

• The Fill Funnel is cracked
• The water inlet valve is leaking
• The pump is leaking
• The Lower Tub Boot Seal has a hole in it.
• The clamps for Lower Tub Boot Seal have broken or come loose.
• The drain hose is cracked
• The House drain is backing up
• The Outer tub has a hole rusted in it
  • This happens on the older style washers. The outer tub is stationary, the inner tub moves around during the spin cycle. What happens is the washer gets an out of balance load and the inner tub hits or scraps the outer tub, knocking or scraping the porcelain off the inside of the outer tub. Once this happens the tub starts to rust and eventually rusts a hole through the tub. This usually occurs towards the top of the tub at the left rear corner.
     
• The seal around the top of the tub is leaking.

Push inwards on clips between the top and front panel while pulling forward on the front panel

• Replace the water inlet valve.

• Check the rubber suspension straps and replace as needed
• Check the washer feet. They sometimes come loose or even rust off.
• Check the flooring under your washer. If it's on a weak floor such as just about any wood floor it may shake or walk.
