Do Not Use Any Sharp Objects Around Coil To Remove Ice. If you puncture this coil you might as well start shopping for a new refrigerator.

Use a Hair Dryer to melt any ice

Accessing the Evap coil, heater, terminator, fan motor, Drain
Unplug Refrigerator and remove everything from freezer section frigiref1.jpg (54320 bytes)
Pry front of bottom upwards at right and left front corners frigi2.jpg (47728 bytes)
Pull forward on freezer bottom Some will slide right out others will require removing the screws around the bottom frigi3.jpg (59340 bytes)
Remove foam barrier and heat shield frigi4.jpg (48352 bytes)

Remove two screws the slide coil forwards then upwards. Note : if excessive ice build up, defrost ice first . See Defrost Cycle Diagnostics Page  frig6.jpg (54027 bytes)
Prop coil up to access components 

Be Careful, Metal fins are very Sharp !

Heater, Terminator and fan locations

Evaporator drain hole. This coil is Aluminum - Be Very Careful with it, the fins are extremely sharp and the metal is very soft and easy to puncture . Do Not Use Any Sharp Objects Around Coil To Remove Ice. If you puncture this coil you might as well start shopping for a new refrigerator.

Use a Hair Dryer to melt any ice

If the drain is stopped up there will not be a lot of frosty or snow like frost on the coil, rather it will be all down in the bottom and the ice will look more like a ice cube. It will be backed up into the fan area and can cause the fan to be noisy or even stop running. If the drain is stopped up, melt the ice using a hair dryer and then flush out the drain usign warm water and a turkey baster.
