Sears Kenmore / Whirlpool / Roper (belt Drive) - Replacing The Control Magnet / Wig-wag
Whirlpool / Kenmore Belt Drive Control Magnet / Wig-Wag | The function of the control magnet is to raise or lower the plungers, shifting the cam bars to either the agitation or spin position. One coil shifts the cam bar that engages/disengages the spin cycle, the other shifts the trans mission into or out of agitation and also moves the lever on the pump for drain or no drain. Be sure to check the wiring to the coils they are known for breaking then you get no voltage to the coils. This part comes as a complete assembly. Control Magnet Removal - Disconnect the power
- Remove the wires to the coils and ohm them out.
- The coils should read 200 to 700 ohms. If you do not get this reading the coil is bad and should be replaced
- Using a 5/16 socket remove the tapered screw then work the control magnet assembly off of the shaft on the transmission.
- Replace in reverse order and run/check
